Head of Boarding, Nantong, China
Our client represents the marriage of traditional values and progressive education. With various locations across mainland China and Hong Kong, they serve approximately 4000 pupils. They are committed to making professional learning and personal development central to their ethos and approach.
As a result of their expansion, they are seeking a Head of Boarding for September 2024 for their Nantong campus. Offering a complete 12-year education system, the school has a total area of over 80,000 m2. Having an enrolment capacity of over 1700 the school also offers boarding options for approximately 640 pupils, starting from primary school age. Adopting the same Victorian architectural style as in England with teaching areas, boarding accommodation, school halls, dining halls, an indoor sports hall, as well as a swimming pool and outdoor football pitch.
As the Head of Boarding, you will lead on all aspects of provision in the boarding house including oversite of pupils and the adults delivering provision. The boarding house is to provide an extension to the educational experience of the school and retain an equivalent philosophy and ethos. You will support each individual pupil’s growth and development, encouraging them to be inspired, intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive. You must demonstrate an understanding of the wider curriculum and administration needs of the school, and achieve high standards by responding professionally, sensitively and caringly to the needs of the pupils.
As the Head of Boarding, you will be accountable to the Executive Master. You will be responsible for the academic and pastoral welfare of pupils in the Boarding House. This includes management of pupil discipline, moral, guidance, and safety. Your role will also include ensuring the maintenance of the House premises so that the environment supports the vision for boarding. You must also establish appropriate policy and procedures in line with the pastoral and boarding handbook.
As the Head of Boarding, you will deploy a team of boarding tutors, matrons and housekeepers, to ensure proper supervision and care, to motivate them and to monitor their work. You will be the first point of contact for parents and the parent figure for the pupils.
To be successful as the Head of Boarding you need an education related Bachelor’s degree or above. You must be a native English speaker, have a minimum 2 years’ working experience as a leader in a boarding house and at least 3 years school leadership experience, and ideally experience working in an international and bilingual school setting. Preferably you will have experience with curriculum development.
