Head of Senior Schools, Hangzhou

Our client offers a pioneering education to serve and help shape a better world. Inspiring their pupils to be the best version of themselves, to take pride in where they come from and to be the change they wish to see in the world.

For an August 2023 start, they are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join their team as the Head of Senior Schools for their Hangzhou campus, showcasing a world-class modern facility, educating pupils from age 2 – 18 years old.

As the Head of Senior Schools, you will be responsible for leading both their international school, consisting of a Primary and Senior School offering a uniquely British style curriculum delivering a world-class international education, and their bilingual school comprising a Primary and Junior High School, bringing together the very best of Chinese and British education delivered through a bespoke bilingual learning environment.

You will work closely with the Heads of Primary to ensure a seamless transition and retain a cohesive 'through school' experience for the pupils. Additionally, you will play a key role in the strategic development of the College, supporting the Principal and Master in their aims.

As the Head of Senior Schools, you will be responsible for leading and nurturing positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents, and the local community. Your excellent communication skills will be vital in adapting to the demands of an international school environment. You will provide support and guidance to all members of the Senior Schools in academic and pastoral matters, and promote distributed leadership and agency among your team.

In terms of academic management, you will lead by example, setting high expectations for both teachers and pupils in terms of achievements and teaching quality. You will support the continuous development of excellent teaching practices, remaining open to pedagogical changes and embedding best practices. You will oversee the setting of academic targets for senior pupils and work towards their achievement, as well as monitor pupil progress and implement interventions and extensions as necessary.

In addition to academic responsibilities, you will also coordinate and deliver effective teaching and pastoral care in the Senior Schools. This will involve leading the Senior School Senior Management Team, ensuring high standards of performance and discipline among the teaching and non-academic staff. You will be responsible for the development and review of Senior Schools policy documents and strategic plans, in consultation with relevant team members. You will also handle parental concerns and communications, liaising with other colleagues as necessary.

Basic qualifications for this role include a Bachelor's degree or above, an appropriate teaching qualification and/or license, and proficiency in English. A NPQH qualification would be desirable. You should be familiar with a range of secondary curricula, including the English national curriculum, IGCSE, and A Level.

You should have significant leadership experience as a Head of Senior School or at least 5 years as a Deputy Head or in a similar senior role in a large school. Experience in budgeting, planning, timetabling, and curriculum planning is also necessary. If you have experience working within a through-school structure (Primary/Prep & Secondary/Senior), it would be considered an advantage.
